Meet Pastor Jim

I’m Jim Herbert, pastor of Emmanuel Christian Fellowship.  Allow me to briefly share about my life.

At the age of twelve, my world crumbled due to my parent’s divorce, grandmother’s suicide, grandfather’s murder, and my mother’s resulting depression and drug addiction.

Three years after the divorce, my mother gave her life to Jesus Christ. My five brothers and sisters and I saw the difference in her, and one by one we also gave our lives over to Jesus. Life was still tough, but the difficulties brought us closer together.

The Herbert FamilyAfter high school, I floundered. I changed colleges and majors three times, looking for satisfaction but finding none. I set aside a week of prayer and fasting to ask God what His plans were for my life. By Wednesday of that week I had my answer! God gave me 2 Timothy 4:1-5 as my call into full-time ministry. I went to Bible College and graduated in 1992.

In 1993, I married Jill, my college sweetheart. Over the years, our love has grown to the point that I can honestly say she is my lover and soul mate. God has given us two beautiful children: Jubilee (born in 1997) and Peter (born in 2000). We thank the Lord everyday for blessing and protecting our family.

Our life in full time ministry has been an adventure. After graduation, I pastored a church in Cleveland, Ohio.  We moved to pastor a church in Omaha, Nebraska.  Now, we are in York, Pennsylvania. Through these years in ministry, God has taught me how to become more focused. He took me through a process of identifying my personal mission and values.

MISSION

Because Jesus Christ has captured my heart I therefore submit to His charge. To recruit, raise-up and release Spirit-filled believers into their purpose through preaching, facilitating and mentoring. This mission will begin with my family and crescendo to the furthest place of influence.

VALUES

  • I value relationships; they are my heart and soul: God, family, friends.
  • I value my wife Jill; she is my lover and soul mate.
  • I value growth in my personal life & ministry and will seek out opportunities to learn.
  • I value building the kingdom of God by networking with other congregations and ministries (city reaching) and helping people find their purpose (mentoring).

    Dear Pastor Jim,
I am writing on behalf of the Sixth Annual Parade and Rally for Education, sponsored by PAC, to be held in York on May 5th.
We would like Emmanuel Christian Fellowship to be a participant! Whenever I call the office, my messages go straight to voice mail, therefore, I thought I would contact you this way. There is no where here to put attachments, but we do have what we call our Wishlist, that could provide you with ideas on how ECF could participate.
It is my understanding that you have before and after school programs for youth! Highlighting those programs would be great at the Parade and Rally!!
Pastor, would you please write back to me at cynloughran2012efpr@gmail.com?? I would like to have an email address that I could send attachments and additional information to Emmanuel Christian Fellowship!
You may also contact our Co-Chair, Ms. Serena Barnes, at 301-305-1648.
Thank you so much, Pastor Jim, and I look forward to hearing back from you, and seeing Emmanuel Christian Fellowship as a participant on May 5th!
    Sincerely,
    Cynthia Loughran Assistant

    Hello,

I am a nurse looking for volunteers to provide a Sunday service once a month to a near-by rehabilitation hospital. Would your church be interested in something like this?

  3. Pastor Jim says:

Hi Missy….sorry I didn’t get your message till now. We are not handicap accessible so that may cause a problem. We have a fair number of steps which causes difficulty for those who have trouble walking. I can easily recommend another church if that would be helpful to you.

contact me by phone at 840-0840 or email at pastorjimecf@comcast.net
